Steps for Home Self-Examination:
Step 1:
Stand in front of a mirror after removing clothing from the chest area. Place your arms at your sides and check for any changes in the shape of the breast, nipple, or skin.
Step 2:
Place your hands on your hips and press down slightly while leaning forward. Check for any changes or swelling in the shape of the nipple.
Step 3:
Put your hands behind your head and push your shoulders forward, focusing on the shape of the nipple.
Step 4:
Divide the breast into four sections.
Step 5:
Examine the breasts using the pads of your three middle fingers in a circular motion against the rib cage. Press evenly over the entire breast area, especially the area behind the nipple.
Step 6:
Don't forget to check the area under the armpit with the palm of your hand, as it is an essential part of the examination.
Step 7:
Gently squeeze the nipple and look for any discharge, especially if it is accompanied by blood.
Finally:
Lie on your back and repeat step 4. Place a pillow under your left shoulder to flatten the breast and make it easier to examine for any lumps. Use your right hand to examine the left breast and then switch sides.
If you notice any unusual lumps during the self-examination, you should see a doctor to check the cause. Remember, not all lumps indicate breast cancer.
