Minister of Youth and Sports Launches Marathon Celebrating World Cancer

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, along with Engineer Tamer Shawky, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Baheya Foundation, inaugurated a marathon as part of the celebrations for World Cancer Day. The event was attended by Major General Ismail El-Far, Head of the Youth Sector at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Hazem El-Leithy, Board Member of Baheya Foundation, Engineer Majid Hamdi, Board Member of Baheya Foundation, Dr. Jilan Ahmed, Executive Director of Baheya Foundation, and Dr. Mohamed Medhat, Director of Baheya Hospital.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi expressed his happiness to be part of the World Cancer Day awareness celebrations in collaboration with Baheya Foundation, praising the significant role the foundation plays in combating the disease. He highlighted the immense impact awareness has on fighting cancer, noting that providing accurate information and education about the causes, symptoms, prevention, and early detection of the disease can greatly improve treatment outcomes.

The Minister emphasized the youth's substantial ability to drive change and spread awareness within the community. Therefore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with Baheya Foundation, encourages and supports initiatives and awareness programs targeting youth to enhance understanding of cancer risks, the importance of early detection, and healthy living.

In his closing remarks, the Minister underscored the critical role sports play in fighting cancer, pointing out that regular physical activity and an active lifestyle help strengthen the immune system and reduce the risk of certain cancers. He encouraged young people to engage in sports and adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.
Engineer Tamer Shawky, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Baheya Foundation, thanked Dr. Ashraf Sobhi for his ongoing efforts in developing sports programs and initiatives that promote health and fitness and help reduce cancer risks. He also acknowledged the strong bilateral cooperation between the Ministry and Baheya Foundation across various fields.

It is worth noting that World Cancer Day is an annual event held on February 2nd, organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The day aims to raise cancer awareness and mobilize global efforts to combat it. It seeks to highlight the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and effective treatment, as well as to promote support for cancer patients and survivors. Awareness activities and campaigns are organized worldwide to raise awareness and encourage individuals and communities to take action to prevent and combat cancer.
