Baheya Foundation for Early Detection and Free Treatment of Breast Cancer for Women is launching its activities on World Cancer Day under the theme: "Adapting and Innovating in Cancer Care in the Era of the COVID-19 Crisis."
Baheya Foundation organizes several awareness activities on World Cancer Day, celebrated on February 4th each year. This day is a unified global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to increase awareness and improve education about cancer worldwide.
Baheya adopts the World Cancer Day 2021 theme "I Am and I Will," which serves as a call to showcase the exceptional spirit and strength of the cancer community, the courage and achievements of cancer patients and their families, and the accomplishments of nurses, doctors, researchers, volunteers, and other caregivers.
Dr. Mohamed Omara, General Manager of Baheya Center, highlighted the measures the center has taken to adapt to the COVID-19 conditions thanks to the support and contributions of Baheya's partners, including:
Additionally, the medical staff and psychological support team have made ongoing efforts to communicate with the fighters through various means, including the hotline 16602 and live internet broadcasts, to answer all questions, support them, and help them through this period.
Regarding Baheya’s activities on World Cancer Day, a medical webinar will be held via live internet broadcast, where specialized doctors will discuss the importance of early detection of breast cancer, symptoms of the disease, self-examination methods, and all medical aspects of the disease. All questions will be answered through this platform. Awareness seminars and campaigns will continue on Baheya’s social media channels by sharing tips and educational articles to benefit as many social media users as possible.
Dr. Cary Adams, CEO of UICC, stated that despite the negative impact of COVID-19 globally, the response of the cancer community has been exceptional, even heroic. This year, more than ever, calls for an extraordinary celebration of World Cancer Day, urging everyone to refocus efforts on long-term challenges to ensure that all cancer patients receive the quality treatment they need.
